Choosing cannabis seeds is easier than ever! Or is it really that simple? Here's some top tips for selecting the dankest options when buying these precious pips of potential.

It feels like just yesterday when there were only two main considerations while picking up some weed seeds. THC and yield were top of the list for most shoppers. A cool cultivar name didn't hurt either. Things have since come a very long way in a very short time. What was once a menu of only a couple dozen options has since become a wonderfully overwhelming world of a bazillion jaw dropping choices.

A world in which past kings such as White Widow, Northern Lights and Super Skunk once reigned supreme has become a thing of the past.  They are now retro novelties that merely exist in the shadow of the new school giants. But there is no need to worry, we have some top tips to help you select the right beans on your journey to dankness.

Choosing Cannabis Seeds

Your needs will ultimately decide what cultivars you choose to grow. So let us take a look at what you need to know before you grow.

Space & Time

It turns out that you are the most important part of the equation when it comes to selecting seeds. The space and time that you have available will be what defines how many plants you can successfully grow. So don't bite off more than you can chew, as this can quickly suck the fun out of it.

Do your homework

A little Googling goes a long way and there really isn't that much to it. Understanding the growing requirements of certain cultivars will make your decisions a lot easier. Indica, Indica Hybrids and Auto-Flowering seeds are popular due to shorter flowering times, while producing dense and potent buds. Sativa and Sativa Hybrids are for more dedicated growers who have the time and space for larger very long flowering plants.

Potency Matters

No matter whether you are into CBD, THC or everything in-between. It is a good idea to consider the cannabidiol content of what you are growing and consuming. Take the time to find the right options and don't get stuck in analysis paralysis. The more time that you spend dithering, the longer it's going to be before you can plant those seeds.you can also have your end product tested in by the GEMMA CERT machine from Green Smoke Room Seeds

Bag Appeal

Buds oozing with lime green and purple, covered in a dense frost of white trichomes are what it's all about these days. The kind of nugs that you can just about smell through your Instagram feed are easier to grow than ever before. But don't judge a bud purely by its bag appeal. There's far more to it than just looks.

Terpenes, terpenes, terpenes

With gorgeous buds and almost absurd levels of THC now becoming somewhat common, decadent terpenes have become the gold standard for cannasseurs. Long gone are the days of growing weed with low odor that wouldn't alert the neighbors. The once delightfully offensive aroma is now being celebrated and selectively bred. Creating the craziest tasting dope that you are yet to toke. Modern terpene profiles in cannabis offer truly unique and evolving aspects to an increasingly discerning market.

Just grow it

When looking at a seed... I can see and taste all of its potential. This is something that I have seen in many friends too, as we casually joke about our hoards of exquisite genetics that will likely never be planted. And that's okay, collecting seeds and pheno-hunting is fun AF. But don't let that online cart full of 50 possible options get in your way. Order some good looking seeds now, plant them, then spend the next couple of months growing them. This will give you plenty of time to ponder over what cultivars to get next. Who knows, you may even want to skip a few steps by ordering some clones.

Growing is addictive

Be forewarned! The seeds in your hand or cart are just the beginning of a wonderful adventure. You will spend months literally watching your grass grow. If done right, you may experience a few bumps along the way. Yet go on to have your first of many more successful harvests. If done wrong, you will want to pull up your socks and do better. Don't be shy to ask your grow store for some advice or spend a couple bucks on the correct grow gear.

Bag Seed

There's a good chance that you already have some nice seeds from a dank bankie or two. They are an excellent opportunity to start learning and get some hands-on experience. Select seeds that are firm and fresh, while avoiding damaged or tiny white ones. Pay close attention though as the genetics of these test plants may be unstable.
